Adventures in Sickness, Medicine Taking & Trains!

Dear Teagan:
You got sick again. Started out a running nose and 2 days later you were waking up in the middle of the night with the scary, croupy cough and gasping for air. I too was sick with lots of sinus pressure and was so tired. We were up from 1 til 3 in the living room with the couch and love seat pushed together watching the same 4 (10 minute) episodes of Thomas & Friends over and over. Then finally I couldn't do it anymore. So we headed to my bed and I turned on Nemo for you. I tried to doze off, but as soon as I did you were saying you wanted to get down. I was so tired and felt like crap and lost it. I started crying. I just wanted to sleep! So despite your cries for mommy, daddy got up watched more Thomas with you in the living room.
Finally you fell asleep for a few hours. Then off to the drs we went. Bronchitis and an ear infection. :-( They put you on augmentin...the thick, white, chalky kind.
The first dose went over just fine. The second, third, fourth and so on didn't. You would spit it out, cry, flail around, kick, try to hit, etc. It ended up a mess...for both of us, as well as the couch. I tried putting it in a little bit of strawberry milk, but as you drank it the first night you said "I dont like my medicine." And I told you you didnt have to take medicine, but then you kept bringing it up. And then the same thing happened the next morning. So finally we brought your medicine to Jenn's so you could take it with Haylee & Hannah at breakfast. They take their allergy medicine every morning and it's white so I figured maybe if you thought they were taking the same thing you'd take it. It worked! You took it with not too much complaining. Then that night daddy was about to take Nyquil with you when you took yours but I told him to put milk in his cup instead. You guys both sat there and kind of have a race to see who could drink theirs the fastest, while taking breaks to discuss how nasty it tasted. Daddy kept losing. After that you were really good about taking your medicine without a fight.

A friend of mine at work gave me a bunch of his kid's Thomas the Train toys. I assumed he'd give us like a grocery bag full or something. Oh no, we got 2 large tote bins filled with 3 different type tracks, about 30 trains and probably 20 or train carts/extenders. Our house has been train madness ever since. That's all you want to do. Watch Thomas, eat Thomas fruit snacks and play trains. For the first few days daddy was rearranging the track and making it super cool. But that got old and I was sick of trying to vacuum around it. We sent one kind of track and about 10 trains to Jenn's for everyone to play with and we kept the other 20 at home. You know all of their names and know when one is missing. You have started to build your own tracks now which is nice. The problem with these trains is they are loud and you like to just let them crash and fall off the track and keep running. So there will be about 12 trains crashed either on their side, into a wall, under the couch, etc. and you playing with probably 2 on the track. It starts to get a bit painful bending over all the time to turn them all off, especially when I try to do it without you noticing. You've had a few taken away here and there for sending them under the couch. I don't know why you think that's so cool. It drives us bonkers!
I don't even know if you sleep at night. It's a hassle to get you to understand it's time to put the trains down and go to bed and then the first thing out of your mouth when you wake up is "I want to play trains mommy." And off you go to play trains. It's crazy! I'm kicking myself for not saving them until the new baby came so you'd have a cool new thing to play with while I was occupied with the baby. :-/ Oh well, I didn't think about it until after the fact of course. Hopefully the trains are just as exciting to you in another 6 weeks or so.

Time to get back to work so I can get out of here and home to you at a good time!

I love you to the moon and back, my sweet big boy.
Love,
Mommy
